For the Love of Eee Eee's

A funny, but sad story...

As you know by now, Graham absolutely LOVES monkies...he calls them "eee eee's". He loves any kind of monkey - mostly his blanket, but he loves stuffed monkies, curious george, those on TV, in books, especially ones on his shirts or PJ's. Anytime he sees anything with a monkey, he just lights up grinning from ear to ear, shouting "eee eee's".

Wednesday was Library day, Graham & GaGa went in for the usual story & playtime. There was a substitute teacher today, that had the song "5 Little Monkies Jumping on the Bed" written into her lesson plan. At first Graham was so excited, she had a blanket/pillow on her lap & was bouncing around 5 little stuffed monkies. (This class is for infants up to 18 months old, so Graham is one of the oldest in the class.)

She sang "5 little monkies jumping on the bed, 1 fell off and bumped his head" when she got to this part, she tossed 1 little monkey over her shoulder where the kids could no longer see the little monkey. Graham became very worried about the injured eee eee & began to sob. She continued, "Momma called the Doctor the Doctor said no more monkies jumping on the bed". Then, on to the next verse "4 little monkies jumping on the bed..." same thing, tossed the monkey over her shoulder. This time Graham really lost it...sobbing, crying "EEE EEE's, EEE EEE's". GaGa took Graham out of the classroom and tried to calm him down, "monkies are ok, the dr. made them all better, blow them kisses".

Once he was calm and the song was over, they went back into the classroom, finished the other stories. Then, it was playtime where they bring out a bunch of toys & let the kiddos play. During playtime, Graham went up to where the teacher was sitting & started looking for the injured monkies. Once the teacher realized what he was looking for, she showed him one of the monkies, and he began sobbing again. GaGa explained to the teacher his love of monkies and they tried showing him that the monkies were ok, but he was just too sad..."eee eee's".

They left the library and he cried for the eee eee's the whole way home & 30 minutes once they were home. Poor guy had a tough day.

He still loves his monkey blanket and all other monkies.

Today at Target, we saw the 5 little monkies jumping on the bed board game, and I showed it to Eric. Graham heard this and said "uh oh" and got very worried, but we quickly changed the subject, so not to bring back the traumatic monkey act.

I can only imagine Graham's horror! I used to cry when I watched animal shows if any animals were injured. Hope you all are doing well!
